Noah Leibold to present at AD/PD in Lisbon

Mr. Noah Leibold, PhD student in Dr. Florin Despa's lab, accepted an invitation to give an oral presentation on his research at the International Conference on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases and related neurological disorders (AD/PD 2024) in Lisbon, Portugal. His talk, entitled "ApoE4 promotes accumulation of amyloid-forming pancreatic amylin in brain parenchyma through a blood-brain barrier mediated mechanism" will take place on March 6th, 2024 and will be accessible both in person, and online, for registered conference participants.

Florin Despa among top 2% of world's most-cited researchers

Today, in a database compiled in collaboration between Stanford University and Elsevier, Dr. Florin Despa was recognized as one of 140 UK scientists and scholars to appear among the world's top 2% of most-cited researchers. Congratulations on this impressive achievement!

Despa Lab members present, win awards at UK's Rising Stars Symposium

Members of the Despa Labs at all stages in their careers participated and presented in the University of Kentucky's 2nd Annual Rising Stars Symposium. Dr. Nirmal Verma, Dr. Sathya Velmurugan, Dr. Deepak Kotiya, Dr. Vivek Pandey, Dr. Ravichandra Davargaon, and Mr. Noah Leibold all presented posters highlighting their recent research.  Dr. Deepak Kotiya's poster presentation won 1st place in the Staff category, followed by Dr. Sathya Velmurugan's poster which won 2nd place. Additionally, Dr. Nirmal Verma's poster presentation placed 2nd in the Faculty category.

Despa Labs host 1st Research Advances in Cardiometabolic and Microvascular Dysfunction

Drs. Florin and Sanda Despa hosted the first Research Advances in Cardiometabolic and Microvascular Disease Symposium at the University of Kentucky. The Symposium featured talks from internationally recognized leading experts in the field, Dr. Romain Harmancey, Dr. Andrew Murray, Dr. Manuel Navedo, and Dr. Linda Peterson.  

Florin Despa gives talks in South Korea on amylin-induced diabetic cerebrovascular complications

On Wednesday, October 18th, Dr. Florin Despa presented as part of Inje University's COOL lectures (Communicating with Outstanding Science Leaders). Dr. Despa's lecture focused on impaired beta-amyloid efflux as a result of amyloid-forming amylin accumulation in the cerebrovasculature. Additionally, on Thursday, October 19th, Dr. Florin Despa presented in South Korea in a session focused on integrating biomechanics and multi-omics approaches for cardiovascular diseases. His talk focused on how pancreatic amyloid-forming amylin leads to cerebrovascular complications.  

Vivek Pandey presents at 2023 Cardiovascular Research Day

Dr. Vivek Pandey presented his research, entitled "Nedd4-2 inactivation underlies the increase in Na+/glucose cotransporter-1 in diabetic hearts" at the 2023 Cardiovascular Research Day in Lexington, Kentucky on October 20th, 2023. More details on the event can be found on the event's webpage.

Florin Despa presents at Duke University & University of Kentucky Grand Rounds

This year, Dr. Florin Despa, Ph.D., has presented twice to medical residents in Grand Rounds presentations. Dr. Despa presented locally at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine Pathology Grand Rounds on January 20th, 2023. His presentation was entitled "Systemic inflammation and impairment of cerebral Aβ clearance provoked by pancreatic amyloid-forming amylin."
