Sathya holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Veterinary Science from India. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Edinburgh, UK, working on actions of appetite peptides on hypothalamic neurons using in vivo electrophysiology. Her research interests are cardiovascular pathophysiology, neurophysiology, Calcium signaling, and mitochondrial biology. Currently, at Dr. Sanda Despa’s lab, Sathya studies the mechanisms underlying diabetic cardiomyopathy using human amylin-expressing diabetic rat and mouse models, assessing their cardiac functions in vivo (echo and electrocardiography) and ex vivo (Langendorff isolated heart system) and by live cell imaging of isolated cardiomyocytes (for Ca2+, Na+, ∆Ψ).
